‘Chrisley Knows Best’ Alum Kyle Chrisley’s Ups and Downs Through the Years: Arrests, Hospitalization and More
Kyle Chrisley has dealt with many ups and downs through the years.
Kyle’s famous family — including stepmom Julie Chrisley, whom dad Todd Chrisley wed in 1996, and half-siblings Chase Chrisley, Savannah Chrisley and Grayson Chrisley — rose to fame on their Chrisley Knows Best reality TV show, which premiered on USA Network in 2014. While Todd and Julie, alongside their youngest three children, starred on the docuseries, Kyle was often absent amid family drama. In 2013, Todd and Julie received custody of Kyle’s daughter, Chloe, after he was arrested for assault.
While Chloe grew up with her paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, Kyle eventually mended fences with his family after he was hospitalized following his 2019 suicide attempt.
Kyle, who married wife Ashleigh Nelson in April 2021, made headlines nearly two years later when he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Us confirmed in March 2023 that the reality TV alum was booked by the Smyrna Police Department in Tennessee, where he was eventually released on a $3,000 bond.

November 2012
Kyle and ex Angela Johnson welcomed their only daughter in November 2012. They split shortly after Chloe’s birth.
“Happy Birthday Chloe! I can’t believe how fast these 10 years have flown. You’re turning into such an amazing little lady and you’re so beautiful,” Kyle gushed via Instagram in November 2022. “Gosh how I wish things were different. I would give you the world if I could. I hope you’ve had a great day today and I love you so much, always!”
2013
Todd and Julie, alongside Johnson, were granted joint custody of Chloe when she was a toddler after Kyle was arrested for the first time. (No further details about Kyle’s arrest are available.) The “Chrisley Confessions” podcast hosts eventually received full custody in 2016 after Johnson was arrested for allegedly defrauding Medicaid and food stamps. Amid Todd and Julie’s 2022 prison sentences, Savannah confirmed that she has custody of Chloe (and Grayson).

May 2019
The South Carolina native was arrested in Oklahoma for felony possession of methamphetamine, according to TMZ. No further details about Kyle’s arrest are available.
August 2019
“I take medication and I had a bad side effect to it, and I tried to take my own life,” Kyle revealed on his dad’s podcast several weeks after his suicide attempt, claiming that “suicidal tendencies” were a side effect of his bipolar medication.
After his hospitalization, Todd and his famous family were by his side. “I will not bury my child,” the real estate mogul said during their “Chrisley Confessions” chat.
April 2021
“Back in 2019 I had the best [thing] happen to me my wife Ashleigh came to me when I felt like I had nobody and gave me strength and a reason to get out of bed and try to be the best person I could each and every day,” Kyle wrote via Instagram in March 2022, while celebrating his first wedding anniversary with Nelson. “I had good days and bad days but I knew I would be able to see her at the end of every week and that thought alone kept me in good spirits and able to get through each week. I never knew that one day this beautiful, smart, dedicated and kind woman would eventually be married to me and also become the best friend that I have ever had and for that I am truly blessed and thankful for.”
March 2023
Kyle was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in Tennessee on March 14, just two months after Todd and Julie began their respective prison sentences. Us confirmed that Kyle was ultimately released on bond.
Per a state warrant obtained by Us the next day, the victim was identified as Kyle’s boss, Deven Campbell. The document noted that Kyle allegedly assaulted him “by striking him multiple times in the face and upper body … [and] that the defendant also displayed a fixed blade knife and threatened to kill/stab him.”

September 2024
Kyle took to social media in September 2024 to share photos of him on the ground surrounded by authorities. He was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest on Monday, September 9, and released on a $6,500 bond, according to In Touch. A rep for Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet that a court hearing is set for December.
Kyle disputed the charges while claiming that a man was threatening him for months and trying to extort him for money. While speaking to In Touch about the incident, Kyle said he “called the police for help” after he was allegedly terrorized by the unnamed individual. Kyle claimed the police sided with the other man due to his family’s legal trouble.
