When they drilled into the Vault, they were able to recover a small piece of parchment. One of the participants noticed this little piece; it was like a small brown ball.

This discovery, along with several ancient items, could be clues leading to a sunken ship holding the elusive Treasure of Oak Island—or the legendary pit that sparked the entire treasure hunting frenzy.

The discovery of man-made structures told The Curse of Oak Island team that there was definitely something hidden on the island.

Here’s how the Oak Island crew just got caught hiding evidence of the real treasure on the island.

When one hears about the many mysteries of Oak Island, one is immediately drawn to the rumor of hidden treasure on this fascinating island.

For more than two centuries, hundreds, if not thousands, of men have made their way to this mysterious island, hoping to find the vast fortune supposedly hidden somewhere on it.

However, despite many efforts and resources invested in this cause, we’re sad to say that nobody has come close to unearthing this treasure.

The problem with the log structure found in Smith’s Cove is simple: is it a very simple explanation, or is it much more complex?

Despite the long-standing rumors of treasure hovering over the island, the treasure hunting frenzy seems to have been triggered when a young man named Daniel McGinnis explored the island back in 1795.

Eager to explore his home island, he must have been stunned by the discovery of a circular depression he came across during his adventure.

Now, some may have simply marveled at what they saw before heading to their pre-planned destination, but not Mr. McGinnis.

This was likely due to the many rumors of treasure he had heard while growing up on the island.

In fact, some of these rumors persist to this day, especially as nobody has yet had the privilege of setting eyes on the treasure.

What I always hope is that someone will say, “Oh yeah, I saw that before over here,” and that would be a piece of data we could use to correlate these rumors.

These rumors vary in nature. Some look to the history of piracy and point out that the island was within one of the most popular areas inhabited by marauders during the Golden Age of piracy—a period that may have started in the mid-1600s.

As such, one could see how a kid like Daniel McGinnis could have thought that maybe pirates buried their treasure on the island many years before he found this circular depression.

As a result, he recruited a few friends to see if they could find the rumored treasure, said to be hidden by legendary seamen like Captain Kidd or the fabled Blackbeard, the scourge of the sea.

Things seemed to be going well when Daniel McGinnis and his friends were digging into the circular depression.

By the time they had reached about ten feet into the ground, they found some encouraging clues, indicating that humans must have dug this circular depression.

I would love it to be something associated with the Templars, because 300 years ago they went from knights to rivaling the monarchy and the Vatican for power and influence.

Then they were gone, which dismisses thoughts that this may have been a natural phenomenon.

This was especially the case when they discovered coconut fiber while digging into the pit.

For those who may not know, coconut fiber isn’t local to this island and must have been brought there by those who dug what would eventually be known as the original Money Pit.

As such, one wonders who could have left this treasure on the island.

Our attention may be drawn to the likes of Queen Marie Antoinette, the wife of King Louis XVI, the last king of France.

Rumors had it that as the queen and her family attempted to flee from angry French peasants and their sharpened guillotine, she sought to stash her treasure on Oak Island, ensuring her family remained well off after their quick getaway from the bloody chaos of the French Revolution.

Initially, you don’t see it, but when you stand there, you can see the forehead, the eye, the nose, and the mouth.

So, was it laying like this, oriented like this?

Alas, all they would find was a guillotine waiting to claim her head before she could even dream of escaping France.

Whether the treasure belonged to some savage pirate or some unfortunate queen who couldn’t escape her enraged subjects didn’t matter to the McGinnis crew, as long as they found the treasure rumored to be hidden at the bottom of the fascinating pit they had discovered.

As they dug deeper, their minds may have wandered to the rumors that this treasure could actually belong to another notable figure in history—William Shakespeare.

Our only guess is that works like King Lear, Hamlet, and others may have helped the great Bard amass a fortune worth stashing away on a remote island far from Europe.

There were even rumors that the legendary playwright hid some of his unpublished works along with the supposed treasure.

Thus, the discovery of this treasure might lead to the uncovering of not only wealth in coins and precious metals but also magnificent works attributed to this legendary writer.

However, that’s a discussion for another day.

What we do know is that despite making progress with The Money Pit, the McGinnis team was disappointed by their lack of tools and manpower to reach the bottom of the massive pit.

As such, they gave up on their dreams of claiming this treasure.

Had they continued, they might have unearthed other clues that drew many others to the island.

These treasure hunters hoped to build on the progress made by the McGinnis crew, and over the next 229 years, many tried and failed to bring this treasure to light.

Now, that’s what we’re looking for: finding a survey stake is important because it’s corroborative.

Is this really a man-made activity associated with the swamp?

Items like that may provide answers.

Unfortunately, as we alluded to earlier, nobody has earned the right to claim that they found the mysterious Treasure of Oak Island.

That said, these treasure hunters have discovered many ancient relics and artifacts that prove strange activities involving treasure took place on the island.

Take, for instance, the ancient Roman sword discovered there.

How could that have gotten there?

Perhaps Julius Caesar and those who took control of the ancient Roman Empire found that Oak Island—whatever it was called back then—was the perfect place to stash some of the wealth acquired during its heyday as the most powerful empire in the world.

However, one can also point to clues like a lead cross or a chipped coin, suggesting that the Knights Templar made their way to the island, looking to secure their ever-growing fortune.

For those who may not know, the Knights Templar was an ancient Christian military organization that protected the interests of Christians during medieval times.

We see something that looks like a square-headed bolt, which would clearly be a manmade item.

That’s what we’re looking for in Aladdin’s cave: evidence that humans were inside it.

As the organization grew more powerful, it generated a great fortune thanks to the favor of prominent Christians of that time, including Pope Innocent II.

Consequently, one can understand how these people may have made the long trip to Oak Island to secure the future of the fortune they amassed during their 200-year reign of power.

Looking at these rumors, one can see how they could lead not only to the treasure rumored to be hidden on Oak Island but also to a revision of historical pages.

The rumors of the ancient Roman Empire or the Knights Templar being on the island may disprove the long-established fact that Christopher Columbus and his murderous crew were the first to reach the Americas.

Sure, the ancient Roman ceremonial sword and the lead cross may be great clues that could rewrite history, but until we find that treasure and confirm who it belongs to, we may never prove that it belonged to either the ancient Romans or the Knights Templar.

All right, it’s a cross! Oh my gosh, I mean that is an old, old cross.

Then again, there could be several different treasures on the island belonging to several different people.

Let’s see whether the latest treasure hunters on the island will help us establish the true state of world history.

By the way, the title of the latest treasure hunters on the island goes to the Lagina brothers and The Curse of Oak Island crew.

This endeavor proved to be the manifestation of the dreams of Rick and Marty Lagina, a pair of brothers from Michigan who had always dreamed of finding treasure.

Some say this treasure-hunting dream was born when Rick, the older of the pair, came across a boulder back home when they were kids.

Eager to see if he could find any treasure in that boulder, he recruited his kid brother and some friends in a manner eerily similar to how Daniel McGinnis rounded up his friends for their own treasure hunt.

Just like McGinnis, Fred said, “Here’s the headstone right here. I take it it’s right down the hill. Can we go take a look?”

The Lagina brothers and their friends never found treasure in that boulder.

Rather than sulking away in disappointment, this event seemed to ignite a fire in the boys.

Going forward, the discovery of the treasure-hunting adventure that many had embarked on when they traveled to Oak Island seemed to help the boys find their path in life.

They were determined to be the ones to find the treasure rumored to be hidden on the island.

For more than a decade now, Rick and Marty have been searching the island for treasure, while helping the viewers of The Curse of Oak Island TV
