Treasure hunters assemble! The biggest treasure hunt in the world is about to continue with its 12th season, and this time the big discovery is inevitable.

As you all know, The Curse of Oak Island is a popular reality TV show that follows brothers Rick and Marty Lagina as they search for legendary treasure on Oak Island, a small island off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. It would not be enough to say that the show is popular. As Rick put it back in 2017, it’s the world’s longest-running treasure hunt, and we all are eating it up.

That being said, due to the underwhelming ending of the 11th season, the show has been on the chopping block for a while, with many expecting the 12th season to be canceled despite the brothers’ efforts. Season 11 ended in disappointment, with no treasure in hand. Matty even admitted that once again, they don’t have the treasure or the story in their hands. This lack of a major discovery has sparked frustration among some fans, with calls to cancel the show growing louder.

But will the History Channel actually pull the plug? Well, thankfully, given the show’s incredible popularity, it seems unlikely. Forbes recently reported that ratings for Season 11 were still strong, with the premiere watched by 2 million people on cable. So, the disappointment did not cause fans to quit the show. In fact, by the third episode, the audience had grown to 2.4 million, making it one of the top 10 most-watched cable programs of the week. These numbers even outperformed major events like NBA games and WWE Raw.

Plus, The Curse of Oak Island boosted the History Channel’s viewership rankings from 18th to 8th, proving that the show’s fan base remains loyal and engaged. I mean, I was one of the devoted fans who stuck with the show despite knowing deep down that they will not have any discoveries this season. Honestly, I feel the same about the upcoming season as well.

Let me know how you feel about the show’s trajectory and whether it should end or not. Regardless of whether we want it or not, with ratings this solid, the History Channel is likely to continue the series. We can expect Season 12 to hit screens in late 2024, likely following the usual November release pattern.

The upcoming season is expected to dive deeper into the island’s mysteries, with the Lagina brothers and their team determined to uncover the truth, if not the treasure itself. I personally expect the brothers to dive deeper into a few key areas. First of all, Season 12 could continue investigating the swamp, building on the discoveries of hidden structures or tunnels that might be connected to treasure burial sites. Uncovering more about the swamp’s role could push the storyline towards solving one of Oak Island’s oldest mysteries.

Also, with past seasons exploring links to the Knights Templar, pirates, and even early European explorers, Season 12 could expand on these theories by investigating newly discovered artifacts. This could include bringing in more historical experts and continuing to test artifacts for age and origin, which could deepen the historical context of the treasure hunt.

Season 12 could also see the team using even more advanced technology, like ground-penetrating radar, sonar, or heavy-duty excavation machines to investigate new potential treasure sites identified in Season 11. The focus might be on unexplored areas, including deeper sections of the Money Pit or new tunnels detected by geophysical surveys.

As in previous seasons, Season 12 could slowly build tension by uncovering smaller but significant finds, pushing the team closer to a major breakthrough.

As the treasure hunt continues, so too does my fascination with the history, legends, and artifacts tied to Oak Island. Let’s be honest, The Curse of Oak Island isn’t just about finding treasure; it’s about the journey, the history, and the discoveries along the way.

With Season 12 on the horizon, we have plenty more to look forward to. Do you agree with me or not? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the show.
