Grayson Chrisley Gets Real About Todd & Julie's Prison Sentences
“Well, to me it’s worse than them dying,
because they’re here, but they’re not here.”
Grayson Chrisley opens up about
how he’s handling Todd and Julie’s
incarceration. The 17-year-old joins
his older sister Savannah’s podcast,
Unlocked, and shares his honest thoughts
about his parents’ absence.
“They’re here, but they’re not here,
so like… but do you not try to see it
from a perspective of like at least
they’re still here for you to hug and say
‘I love you’?”
“I mean, yeah, but I get to do all of that
within a time limit.”
While Savannah says she feels quote
“renewed” following her time with Todd and Julie,
Grayson admits he wrestles with the
on-again, off-again visits.
“So I kind of struggle going back to back weeks
because I feel like I kind of
I’m in that mood until about Thursday or Friday,
and then I go and start it all over again.
Yeah, and never really get out of it.
Yeah, I’m good Saturday, Sunday is when it hits me,
and then Sunday to Thursday is bad,
and then we go on Friday again,
and then it’s just the same.”
The two siblings reflect on
trying to visit their parents as often as possible,
but that isn’t without its challenges.
“So it’s like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Yeah, which is tough because no one should
ever be put in that position,
but it’s also hard because they tell you
you gotta live your life, you’re 17 years old.
Yeah, you can’t spend every weekend going,
and then when you don’t go, you still feel bad,
even though they said that.”
“Yeah, even though you know they understand.”
Grayson keeps it real after Savannah asks
how the kids can take this experience
and not become bitter from it.
“To be honest, I don’t know if it’s possible,
but I don’t think it is.
There’s always gonna be a part of you that is bitter.”
After the jury found them guilty of
tax fraud offenses in November 2022,
Todd began his 12-year sentence
at Florida’s Federal Prison Camp, Pensacola,
in mid-January, on the same day as
Julie started her seven-year sentence
at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
The couple had pleaded not guilty to their charges.
Their attorney previously told the news that
“an appeal is planned.”
In the meantime, Savannah has taken over
as the primary guardian of Grayson and her niece, Chloe.
