Julie Chrisley's sentence upheld | FOX 5 News
WELCOME BACK TO FOX FIVE NEWS AT NOON.
HAPPENING NOW. A FEDERAL JUDGE UPHELD FORMER REALITY STAR JULIE CHRISLEY’S 84 MONTH SENTENCE JUST MOMENTS AGO.
SHE IS CHARGED WITH BANK FRAUD AND TAX EVASION.
FOX FIVE’S ERIC PERRY IS LIVE AT THE RUSSELL FEDERAL BUILDING WITH MORE.
HE’S BEEN FOLLOWING THIS CASE. ERIC, TELL US WHAT’S GOING ON.
YEAH. >>REPORTER: PAUL. HAPPY WEDNESDAY TO YOU.
EGREGIOUS GREED IS WHAT BROUGHT US HERE.
THAT IS WHAT FEDERAL PROSECUTORS TOLD THE JUDGE TODAY AS THEY WERE SENTENCING JULIE CHRISLEY.
WE SAW JULIE CHRISLEY WIPING AWAY TEARS WHEN THE JUDGE ULTIMATELY UPHELD THAT 84 MONTHS.
WE ALSO HEARD FROM JULIE CHRISLEY AS WELL.
SHE SAYS THAT SHE HAS HAD YEARS TO THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE WANTED TO SAY.
SHE ALSO WENT ON TO SAY THAT SHE WAS SORRY THAT HER ACTIONS LED TO TODAY.
OF COURSE, THERE ARE NO CAMERAS ALLOWED INSIDE THE FEDERAL BUILDING,
BUT WE’LL DO OUR BEST TO PAINT THE PICTURE OF WHAT HAPPENED INSIDE THERE.
AS THE GOVERNMENT ARGUED THAT THE JUDGE SHOULD UPHOLD THE 84 MONTH SENTENCE.
AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT JUDGE ROSS DID TODAY.
THEY ARGUE THAT JULIE CHRISLEY HAS SHOWN NO REMORSE, ACCOUNTABILITY, OR SYMPATHY DURING THE TRIAL OR THE INITIAL HEARING,
SAYING THAT THIS WAS, QUOTE, A 11 YEAR JOURNEY OF FRAUD AFTER FRAUD
AND THAT JULIE CHRISLEY WAS NOT A WALLFLOWER DURING THESE CRIMES,
THAT SHE ACTUALLY ENGAGED IN A LOT OF THE ACTIONS WITH HER HUSBAND THERE.
NOW, AS FOR THE DEFENSE, THEY ARGUED THAT IN JULIE’S 20 MONTHS SO FAR IN CUSTODY,
THEY SAY SHE’S BEEN, QUOTE, A MODEL INMATE GAINING OVER 70 CERTIFICATES AND BEING HEAVILY INVOLVED.
NOW WE TALKED WITH SAVANNAH CHRISLEY, THE DAUGHTER, CHASE CHRISLEY, THE SON, AND THEIR LAWYER AS WELL.
THEY ARE DISPLEASED. THEY ARE MAD ABOUT THIS RULING.
AND THEY SAY THEY FELT PERSONALLY ATTACKED BY THE JUDGE.
TAKE A LISTEN. >>>>: THE DAUGHTER THAT CHLOE IS NOT BEING TREATED WELL OR SORT OF BEING LIED TO.
YOU KNOW, THOSE WERE DIRECT ATTACKS AT FAMILY MEMBERS, AND I JUST.
I’VE NEVER SEEN A JUDGE ATTACK A FAMILY MEMBER IN THE COURTROOM LIKE THAT.
AND TO SAY IT SEEMS FOR. NO, IT’S NOT WHAT SENTENCING IS FOR.
AND TO SAY THAT IT IS FOR TV RATINGS OR FOR PODCAST RATINGS IS LAUGHABLE
BECAUSE BOTH OF MY PARENTS ARE SITTING IN FEDERAL PRISON.
SO THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RATINGS.
YEAH, >>REPORTER: THEY ARE REFERRING TO THE JUDGE IN HER COMMENTS,
SAYING THAT SHE HOPES THAT YOU ARE MORE CONCERNED FOR THE YOUNGER KIDS’ WELL-BEING,
AND FOR THEM NOT TO BE ON A REALITY SHOW OR A PODCAST.
SHE WENT ON TO SAY SHE HOPES THAT THEY TEACH THEM NOT TO CHEAT OR STEAL AGAIN.
WE DID HEAR FROM JULIE CHRISLEY.
SHE WAS IN PRISON UNIFORM THERE.
AFTER HER LAWYERS ASKED IF SHE COULD BE IN REGULAR CIVILIAN CLOTHES, THAT WAS DENIED.
SHE WENT ON TO SAY SHE CANNOT REPAY HER CHILDREN FOR THE TIME DURING ALL OF THIS.
NOW, THE LAWYER SAYS THEY DO PLAN TO APPEAL THIS.
THAT HAS TO BE FILED WITHIN THE NEXT 14 DAYS.
